The size of the employer matters
20 or more employees: If coverage is through your own or your spouse’s current job, you can usually wait on Part B without a penalty. You have eight months after the job or coverage ends to sign up.
Fewer than 20 employees: Medicare usually pays first, so you generally need Part B at 65.
The mistake we see most
COBRA and retiree coverage do not count as coverage from a current job. Waiting on Part B because of either one can leave you with a gap or a late penalty.
A retirement date you can act on
We put your employer plan beside Medicare with you and write down the date you will need to act. Gary especially enjoys helping people retiring from city and state jobs make this transition without guesswork.
